| I would prefer to balance Maine's budget by reducing wasteful spending and finding more efficient ways for the State to conduct its necessary business. However, if there are areas of the existing State payroll which include headcount not justified by the workload, we should do what is in the best interest of the taxpayer. State jobs should also pay salaries commensurate with average salaries for similar positions which exist in the private sector here in the State. I am in favor of providing retirement savings opportunities but not pension plans for State employees. | |||
| The situation in Maine's higher education system is that we are producing more graduates than our economy can support, and as such we are subsidizing the labor forces of other states as newly minted, tax-subsidized graduates flee Maine for better prospects. Our investment in our University system should reflect the realities of the market. I would like an increase in Maine's Law Enforcement budget to help battle the heroin and methamphetamine epidemic. In addition, we should provide funding for additional treatment facilities to combat this problem. I would like to see Maine more efficiently allocate money spent on welfare entitlements. | |||

| My intention, if elected, would be to support and pursue legislation to make Maine a more attractive place for business to operate and create jobs. This would include opposing arbitrary increases to the State's minimum wage. We need to ensure our young people can make their life here. I will oppose a net increase in taxes levied on businesses and individuals. I will support efforts that reduce the cost of energy consumed by Maine's businesses and individual citizens. I pledge to uphold Mainers' rights guaranteed to them under the US Constitution, including the right to keep and bear arms. |
